Transgender Support Caucus

9:00 am – 11:00 am – Room: Huron A
Gender Identity and Catholicism – A Time for Celebration and Challenge
Please join the Transgender Support Caucus and its families, friends and allies for an engaging, informative and interactive gathering to discuss both 1) the progress that transgender, non-binary and queer Catholics have made toward greater visibility, acceptance and inclusion within a growing number of Catholic parishes and Catholic institutions, as well as DignityUSA and its nationwide chapters, and 2) the formidable challenges that our community still faces in continuing to seek acceptance, equality, andjustice in dealing with Catholic institutions, including the hierarchical Church, the Catholic education system, Catholic health care facilities, and most Catholic parishes and communities.

Members of the Caucus will offer brief synopses of the reasons for celebration and, more importantly, the nature of the current challenges. Each topical area will be followed by an interactive discussion of these issues, including recounting of any personal experiences that attendees wish to share. We will further seek to develop an agenda of issues that the Caucus and DignityUSA can seek to address in the future through support, education and advocacy.
